School History
BEGINNING
In 1972, a site in Hiu Kwong Street, Sau Mau Ping was granted to the Catholic Church for the construction of a subsidized Anglo-Chinese Secondary Technical School for girls. The name of the school was first proposed to be 'Sau Mau Ping Catholic Girls' College'. The Columban Sisters, upon the request of the late Bishop Hsu, agreed to take over the Sponsorship of this new school.
THE NAME OF THE SCHOOL
In early 1973, the Columban Sisters were introduced to Mr. K.K. Leung, a prominent businessman, who intended to donate money to the building of a school in memory of his late father Mr. Leung Shek Chee. Soon, Mr. K.K. Leung and his brothers generously donated one million dollars to cover 10% of the Sponsor's contribution. In return, they only requested the school be named LEUNG SHEK CHEE COLLEGE. In September, 1973, the School was officially registered with the Education Department as 'Leung Shek Chee College'. However, construction work did not get started until July, 1976 as the government subsidy was granted only in April of the same year.
OPENING OF THE SCHOOL
Owing to the delay in work, the School had to open on 1st September, 1977 in borrowed classrooms at the Chinese Artists' Association Primary School in Lam Tin, with six Form 1 classes and an enrolment of 250 students.
COMPLETION OF THE SCHOOL
By January 1978, in spite of the fact that the School was only partially completed, we managed to 'move back home'. By July, all the Special rooms and the Hall were finished. In October 1978, the School was formally registered with the Education Department. In 1979, extra facilities such as air-conditioning in the Hall and Lecture Theatre, repainting of doors, and Special Signs indicating location of rooms and their use were added. For all these, we owe our gratitude to Mr. Leung and his brothers.
OFFICIAL OPENING AND BLESSING OF THE SCHOOL
Our School was officially opened by Mr. K.K. Leung and blessed by Most Rev. John B. Wu on Friday, 7th March, 1980. On that day and the following day, we had our first Open Day. Many friends and parents shared our joy on those days.
FIRST GRADUATION CEREMONY
The First Graduation Ceremony was held on 17th June, 1982. We were honoured to have Mr. K.K. Leung and his daughter Mrs. Annie Wong as our special guests. During the ceremony, Mr. Leung donated half a million dollars to the School for scholarships and improvements of the School.
